How do you remove solids from effluent?
Effluents can contain colloidal or suspended solids or a combination of both. In order to remove these chemically from the effluent the processes of coagulation and flocculationare employed. For an effluent with fairly large discreet particles (above 0.01mm) just flocculation may be required.
Effluents containing metals are normally treated by precipitating them as the hydroxide which forms a light floc and then building this weak floc with a flocculant.
